Rain Rain go away!!!

It has been raining all week long!!! It's just not fun for anyone. Poor Sadie doesn't quite understand what it means when she says "side" and wants to go outside and I tell her we can't because it's raining. Here she is (I didn't exactly take this picture today if you will notice the snow on the ground, but we did do the exact same thing!) playing with her babies. Today she even lined them up and read books to them! :) She is too funny!! I am excited though because the weather forecast calls for a beautiful weekend with temps in the high 60's! YAY! I foresee lots of time outside at the playground and taking walks and maybe even a picnic!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Looking back

I thought I would post this precious picture of Sadie. I was looking back through pictures tonight and saw this one. Look how little she looks here?? This at the beginning of 2009 when we went down to Thailand for a few weeks. She was only 7 months old here...I can't believe how quickly time has gone by and now she is talking all the time!! She is so funny. Recently she has loved using the word "okay". All day, I hear this over and over. And then I realized why she says this all the time, because I do!! I have a little one who is copying everything I do, what a scary thing!!! I must be careful...little eyes and ears are all around!

The Weather..

I love, love, love the weather here lately! It has finally turned into spring! I can not tell you how many days I have looked out the window and pleaded with God to make the weather warmer! And some days, I will be honest as I not a happy camper when I looked out in April and saw snow coming down!! :) Well, thankfully the day has come and warmer days are here..now granted I am still wearing longsleeves and no flip flops yet, but I have high hopes that one day, one day soon I will pull out my new flip flops! :)
Well this weekend has been no fun for Sadie. She has been having constipation issues. Oh, my, has that not been fun for mommy and daddy either. She has been in so much pain, her poor little cry...it's horrible!! But thankfully things are looking up for her, she has been a little better this afternoon. We even were able to get out and head to the playground for a while. Getting her mind off of the pain has helped a lot too!
I am going to try to cook things with more fiber in them this week. I will be honest, I haven't been very intentional in my cooking lately, just cooking things that are yummy and not so much good for you or with fiber and poor Sadie is taking the brunt. So, I am on a trek to cook better things for all of us!
And speaking of that, I made a very very yummy smoothie today! Just frozen bananas, strawberries and yogurt...oh my...I could have had two or three glasses it was soo good!!
I also made a new friend today...she has a little boy who is almost 3. And he has soo much energy, Sadie LOVED playing with him! Here most children are just quiet and don't run around a lot and they are not quite sure about playing with the foreign child. Well, this little boy loved playing with her. I instantly connected with the mom because our children are so much alike!! I am hoping to meet her out on the playground again soon!
Well, I am going to go for now, dinner is in the oven (breakfast casserole, eggs, sausage (made by scratch for the first time for Clark) and cheese and rice...)
Happy Sunday!

Celebrating the day we got engaged!

Four years ago today Clark and I got engaged! If you want to read "Our Story" go to the link to the right under about us, it will catch you up on how God brought us together. ! I posted the picture above because these are our very best friends who introduced us to each other!! Kris and Vanessa went to church with Clark and introduced us to each other. (Oh and if you didn't know, Vanessa and I went to college together and have been best friends for forever..) I thought it was perfect to post a picture of the four of us at our last meal together before we came to China. We love you guys and hey, thanks for introducing me to my fabulous husband!! :) And honey, I am so thankful that we get to do life together, even if it is changing dirty diapers, giving baths, feeding children and so exhausted by the end of the day it is hard to have a deep conversation, it's our life and I wouldn't trade it for anything!!

Friday

Can I just say that I am glad it's Friday? It really doesn't make a difference what day it is because everyday is the same when you have small children, or at least it is for me. But for some reason when I know it's Friday, I just breath a sigh of relief :) I must admit I am counting down the minutes until Sadie is in bed though! She has been whiny this afternoon and Clark is getting her ready for bed now. And then we are going to enjoy a nice quiet evening (that is if Jack cooperates!) and eat dinner together and relax. But with kids, sometimes it doesn't happen that way. I am sure Jack will wake up at some point and then you never know what the night will entail!! :)

Today Sadie and I made some new friends...Sadie loved their little boy/girl (never knew which one it is, isn't that sad?? ) And they are going to come over and play some time. I am excited about that! Have I mentioned how truly happy I am that warmer weather has finally hit us!! Oh now I am dying for the day to wear flip flops again. I have two new cute pairs that I am just itching to wear. According to the weather forecast it is going to be 65 degrees tomorrow, wonder if i can wear them? We shall see!!

Anyway, just thought I would check in, I have been on a role with blogging lately and wanted to keep it going!!

Happy Friday to you!!! :)

update from yesterday...

While taking Sadie out to the playground, we met some really nice grandmas. I was a little worried when a whole group of them started to come over because you never know what they might say. I did in fact zip Jack up inside my jacket a little more because I wasn't prepared for it today. But I was pleasantly surprised and had the best conversation with about 7 or 8 of them. I walked away this morning with a smile on my face and thankful that God gives us moments like those to make up for moments like yesterday...

Need to smile today?

thought so....

Happy 30th Anniversary!!

..to the Post It Note! When I mentioned to my mom that I was going to let Sadie play with Post It notes today because I couldn't find any stickers, she told me that it was actually the 30th Anniversary of Post It Notes. Who knew?? So, I figured well, all the better to make our little attempt at a craft today!
And by the way...she LOVED it! It gave me enough time to put laundry away and for Jack to have tummy time!

Difference in Culture

I had the bright idea that we needed to take a family outing this afternoon. We don't get the chance to wonder far from our apartment complex with two children under two. It is just not the easiest thing to do. So, today, I thought, we need to get out! So, after nap time, Clark and I took Sadie and Jack down to the local "Walmart" which had an inside play area. We were so excited to see that when we got there we were the only ones there. It is nice to have it all to ourselves and Sadie can run around like crazy. Slowly other families showed up. While it was nice to have others for Sadie to play with, it is always a bit tricky. They parent or grandparent very different than we do and so it is hard to deal with Sadie when she is wanting something that someone else has. It was about 5:00 and time to go home and oh my Sadie did not want to leave. You see the picture above? Oh, it was much worse than that! And of course this would be the time when every Chinese person comes out of the word work. We continue to put on her shoes, her jacket and get our things together, because it is time to go. And this is when I wish I didn't know how to speak Chinese. One older grandma looked at me and said, she isn't ready to go, she wants to play more. You need to let her get down and play more. I had a lot of not nice thoughts at that point but I controlled myself and looked at her and said, we don't have time for her to play more and she needs to learn to obey me. When I tell her it is time to go, she needs to listen and obey. And of course that brought on a lot of laughter from those around me and the more I heard people laughing, the frustrated I got. We finally got Sadie into her stroller and headed out. Two minutes later, she was completely fine. But I was still trying to calm my poor nerves down!
You see, it is much different in China. I have been on the playground with other parents and have seen them ask their child a million umpteenth times if they were ready to leave. They wait until the child is ready and don't demand obedience from them. And I should say, this is only from my observation, I am sure not everyone is like this. So, to have a screaming child is just not something you see very often. But I assure you, they got their fill today!

So, that started my "Not so nice China day" If any of you have lived overseas, you know what I am talking about. We head into "walmart" (at least as close as you can get here) because I wanted to buy a blender. I found the perfect one that I wanted. It wasn't too expensive but yet it was sturdy. I had asked all of the questions about it to the worker who was helping me and then I told her I wanted to buy it and so she looks at me and says, "oh you can't buy it" What?? What do you mean I can't buy it? Well, the box had been opened and they wouldn't sell it to me. Oh, I was not a happy camper! I had just went through all of that for you to tell me that I can't buy the blender....not happy, I tell you.

We go about the rest of our shopping picking up odds and ends and we had decided to go by KFC on our way out and pick up some dinner to take home with us. So much for that, the line was so long it was going to take 30 minutes just to pick up dinner. So, we head home and have peanut butter sandwiches instead.

Definitely not my ideal day at all, but on a brighter note, the weather is warmer and Sadie and I enjoyed a wonderful morning outside! We got to talk to lots of people and enjoyed playing together, I love mornings like that!!

I also made some veggie pancakes for lunch. Oh my were they yummy! I used a pancake recipe and put in grated carrot, zucchini and cheese. Sadie and I gobbled them right up.

And good news in the sleeping area, she slept all night without waking up!! Praise the Lord!! Now, praying that it happens again tonight....

I am in need of a nice long bubble bath...now if only I had a bathtub....

The latest...

Last night went really well!! Praise the Lord! We gave Sadie milk before she went to bed like I told you guys. And then at about 2 am she woke up crying. It was off and on at first so we just let her go for about 10 minutes and then the crying got worse. It is such a stressful feeling trying to decide what to do for her but having absolutely no idea! So Clark went in there and took her milk and changed her diaper. After that he did the bedtime routine and put her back down again and we didn't hear a peep from her until 7 am!! Isn't that awesome? I do think a lot of it is the prayer that went into it before she went to sleep, before we went to sleep and while Clark was in there with her. I was praying like crazy!! So, we shall see how tonight goes!

Today, Sadie and I got out for a little while. Lately, I have really been seeing the need for her to have more fresh fruits and veggies. And being here, it is so easy to get them, I knew that I needed to take advantage of that. So, we went to the market and I bought apples, bananas, strawberries, cucumber, cauliflower, zuchinni, cherry tomatoes and green beans. We had fruit for lunch and I plan on serving some cucumber for dinner to see if she likes it. I am not a fan, but you never know, she might like it!! What do you guys give your kids for snack? I am really having a hard time finding things that are healthy for her and easy to fix. I did find a website, wholesometoddlerfood.com that I am hoping to read more about. I used their baby site a whole lot when I was making food for Sadie, so I am hoping this will help!

Anyway...gotta go for now...Sadie and I are watching the Little Mermaid...I love this movie!

Sister Brother Love

Here are just a few pictures of Sadie interacting with Jack. It is a lot of fun to see how they are starting to play together. He is laughing at her and she is constantly wanting to play with him.

Be praying for us tonight, we are trying to eliminate why Sadie is waking up. I am so thankful for all of your suggestions and what has worked for you all. It has helped so much. I really don't think it is teeth or night terrors, but I can't be sure. I am really wondering if she isn't just hungry like Kellie said. So, tonight we made sure that she had a glass of milk before she went to bed to make sure she was good and full. We will see what happens. I am afraid that if Clark goes in there to give her yogurt she will think it is time to get up because that is what we do when she gets up in the morning. Last night it was the same, at 4 am, the night before it was midnight. And the thing is she has been up for a while because she has thrown everything out of her bed...hmm....anyway...I will update later and let you know if it is working...this is not a fun stage at all!!!

Potty Training...

We are still in the works with potty training Sadie. I will admit, I haven't been truly focusing soley on potty training with her. It has been tough, especially when I am feeding Jack and all of the sudden she needs to go! We have had a few times this week when she has went all on her own, I was super proud!! The best was when I had a diaper on her and she sat on her little potty, said she was going pee pee and then used the burp cloth to "wipe" herself. I felt horrible because I should have taken the diaper off! :) Anyway...we are taking it one day at a time, I am not in a huge hurry because she isn't even two yet, but boy is she ready. Here she is above with Annie (her bear) on one potty and she on the other. The tears...well that is because mommy won't let her have the camera! :)

PS. We have been having trouble with Sadie sleeping...again...the past few days she has been waking up at 2 am then one day at 5 am and then yesterday at 3 am. She is crying so hard and so Clark goes back in to put her down and she is just clinging to him so he ends up sleeping in the spare bed with her those last few hours. Any ideas why this might be happening?? We have racked our brain...she is in a dark room, doesn't seem to be cold and her diaper is wet (one morning we are sure that is why she woke up) but every other morning?? And yes, she still goes to be early, 6:30 at night....anyway, would love any advice from you guys....you always help me!! :) Clark is starting to rely on you...he said, what do your friends say about this?? So...I thought, I better ask!!

I had a few more minutes to post some pictures from Easter today. My time lately has been spent multi tasking..between two kids!! I wish I had more time to blog because I have lots of funny Sadie stories! :) But for now, I am going to leave you with a few pictures of some cute kids. Hopefully in the next few days I can share more with you guys.
